I have seen a lot of bad resumes. Search on Internet on good resume building tips. There are lot of question on Quora regarding good resume building go through them. This might seem boring or too much effort to you, but time invested in good resume building you will reap for years. But here are few tips, which are must:

  1. Make sure you have inputs from couple of your friends. Your resume should perused by at least 3-4 persons.
  2. Without any exception your resume should not cross 2 pages. Ideally it should be one or one-and-a-half page.
  3. Your personal information, hobbies, address, and other details should only be at the last end of the resume.
  4. Just by looking first half of the page it should clear, your name, contact details, your years of experience, the skills-technologies and proficient with, and job role you are looking for. There should be no confusion in role, for example you are looking for manager, or PM, or developer, or ops engineer.
  5. It should have consistent formatting. For example, whatever font and font-size you have chosen, it should be consistent across. For example, if your heading is “Times New Roman, bold, 14”, that should be the case for all headings. Similarly if your bullet listing ends with full-stop, then all bullet-listing should end with full-stop.
  6. Write career-objective only if you have something specific to mention, without which your resume will be incomplete, or cast a wrong impression.

Here are few-more good to haves:

  • Make sure you have an attractive tagline/headline.
  • Make sure your resume has couple of keywords. For example, excellent and outstanding. Also, many recruiters are not familiar with technology. So if possible mention both, for example if you work in databases, make sure somewhere in your resume DB, database, and postgres, all are mentioned.

Apart from this, I will suggest be active on Linkedin. Build your network. Job portals is one of many ways to find a job. There are other ways. And remember great job opportunities are always hidden and rarely advertised.
Following linkedin posts and quora questions could be helpful:

What are some proven, effective and practical ways for job seekers to tap into the hidden job market (i.e. jobs which are not advertised)?

OK, Let’s first understand how most job portal works, in simple words and how to use it –

1. They are just like Social network sites (Facebook or twitter for instance). I mean, when you update your information in your fb profile or upload a picture, it will appear on your friend’s input feed. It will appear for quite some time in their feed and then disappears as days pass by, when your post becomes inactive. But, let’s say you are commenting/editing/your friends are liking your pic/post, so then it will be appearing on your friend’s feed, because your post is still active — Exactly this is the logic in job portals too. If you are editing your profile in the portal REGULARLY , it will be appearing in recruiters page, as long as you are updating your profileFREQUENTLY.

So you have to keep editing your profile, AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. Editing can just be adding a space, changing the spelling or something like that, just to keep the profile active. When you are editing your profile, recruiters see that your profile is really active and will contact you. Profiles not edited for some time would mean that you are not actively looking for job and hence recruiters will not contact you.

2. Recruiters always search for profiles with KEY WORDS, and pick profiles which match (contains) these keywords. I mean, let’s say, a recruiter is searching for a JAVA developer, with experience in Hibernate, and know-how of SVN, with past Onsite experience. Then keywords a recruiter would use to search a candidate would be – JAVA, Hibernate, SVN, Onsite.

Your profile on job portal should contain these keywords, only when your profile will appear on top while a recruiter filters all the available profiles. But, how do you make sure these keywords are in your profile, well, you just have to put all the possible keywords (that will make sense) together in your resume that you might upload on the job portals.

For instance, I am a Software Configuration guy, so that basic keywords that a recruiter would be – SCM, Software Configuration Management (this is just a full form of SCM, but I still add it separately, to increase the possibility of matches), DevOps(this is another way of calling a SCM guy, but again I add it in my profile, you already know why ;)), SVN, Continuous Integration (or just CI), Jenkins, Apache ANT, Batch, Windows Servers and ……

Keep in mind, mostly, recruiters are not technical people, and are not aware that SCM and Software Configuration Management are one and the same, in the above case, so putting all these combinations of keywords would increase the probability of your resume getting shortlisted.

Also, as one of the writer already suggested, Please check your contact details.

Hope this helps 🙂

Just uploading your resume is not enough. You have to answer following questions first?

  1. Is my resume relevant and has keywords that a recruiter will use while looking for a candidate? E.g. A recruiter for KPO industry is given instruction to shortlist people with key words such as “business research”, “secondary research” etc.
  2. If the answer is No. You should rebuild your profile. Naukri offers you to have multiple profiles so that you can apply for roles which are different from each other.
  3. Have you uploaded a cover letter, a decent profile picture and a suitable set of headline? Naukri has a meter which measures completeness of profile. Make it 100%.
  4. How good is your LinkedIn Profile? Many people underestimate Linkedin profile, but based on my experience with the Recruiters over the years, a good LinkedIn profile is the key to your selection. Many a times, recruiters search for candidates on LinkedIn and if they like your profile, they get your profile from Naukri or any job site.
  5. How frequently you are updating your profile? An updated profile has much higher probability to get selected than a dormant profile. A dormant profile means the candidate is not looking for a job.

There is nothing called a saturated job market. People are always resigning and employers are always looking for good candidates.

Login to your Naukri account ,Go to ‘’My Naukri Home’’ then go to ‘’Visibility settings ‘’ and open it .Check whether your profile is showing ‘’Visible or Active ‘’ or not..

It might be possible that your profile is showing either inactive or invisible ,that is why you are not getting any response from recruiter

The website has more than 1 crore CVs on it and it is very easy to get lost among the crowd. Things that you can do to ensure your CV ranks high and gets you interview calls:

1.) Keep your CV complete with all details like educational qualifications, previous and current experience.

3.) Always provide the latest mobile no and email ID that you are currently using

4.) Make sure that you use the right keywords in your profile so that when recruiters search for profiles for a particular job your profile shows on the top
